History
of the FCCY Mens
Team(s) - http://fccyadults.blogspot.com/ 2004
/ 2005 FCCY formed an adult side for the first time in the clubs’ history, made up by the majority of the previous seasons Under 16’s. As expected, it was a difficult transition, but was a great learning experience. Although many games ended in defeats, this was after we had outplayed the opposition, but a lack of physical size and experience often proved costly. A final 13th place out of 15 in the Trowbridge & District League Division 3 was a credit to the lads efforts. 2005
/ 2006 Our
2nd season in the Trowbridge & District League Division 3
saw much improved results, although the inability to field a settled side
was disappointing and meant we didn't finish as high as we deserved.
However, 5th was a vast improvement. 2006
/ 2007 This season saw us enter 2 teams – the 1sts moving to the Wiltshire League Division 2 and the newly created 2nds in the Trowbridge & District League Division 3. The
Wiltshire League for the 1sts proved to be a big step up in standard, but
with the addition of a few older players, we discovered that this suited
our style. We finished 5th, which was an excellent effort. The
2nds did very well, even without a regular keeper until Christmas. After
the addition of a keeper, an excellent run saw the team needing an 8-0 win
on the last day to steal 2nd, however we fell just 1 goal short
and claimed 3rd and promotion. 2007
/ 2008 This season saw the 1sts remain in the Wiltshire
League Division 2, the 2nds in the Trowbridge & District Division 2
(after promotion) and the newly created 3rds into the Trowbridge &
District Division 3. Logistically, this was a nightmare, with many players turning out for all 3 sides at various times. The
1sts managed 5th again, which was slightly disappointing after
an excellent start to the season, that saw a string of wins until the end
of November. However,
the season ended brilliantly in the Subsidiary Cup. After 6 group games
and a semi-final, the final was played at Marlborough Towns ground v
Swindon APS. With just 2 minutes remaining of normal time on a stinking
hot and humid day in a superb, tense and very even game, a 30 yard strike
from Nathan Pritchard gave us the win! The
2nds had a disappointing season in terms of results finishing 10th
of 14. The team did prove to be good in terms of developing players for
the 1sts. All those that were called upon performed creditably. The team
did have an excellent disciplinary record and won both the divisional and
league overall Fair Play Award, which is marked by the Referees. The
3rds were amazingly erratic, with good wins versus top sides interspersed
with shockingly bad defeats. We did manage to get through the fixtures
even though we were always struggling for numbers. A finishing position of
7th of 12 was a decent effort in the circumstances. Club
Secretary, Steve Manifold, also won the Trowbridge & District League
Secretary of the Year Award. |
